Organ transplant testing and rare event detection

Digital PCR for rare event detection

Donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) is gaining adoption as a biomarker for monitoring solid organ transplants. Using a minimally-invasive liquid biopsy approach, as opposed to a more invasive tissue biopsy,  transplant recipients can be monitored for potential cases of rejection. Using this approach of identifying and quantifying cfDNA in patients can be more cost-effective than traditional approaches and  affords earlier detection and management of rejection.

Sequencing techniques, while thorough, can be costly and yield high turnaround times, while qPCR methods might not detect low-levels of dd-cfDNA. Digital PCR provides better quantification of cfDNA – even at a lower levels – while also providing faster turnaround times, lower costs, and better sample control than sequencing.

From sample extraction to analysis for transplant diagnostics

The Nio+ system offers a fast, easy-to-use platform for quantification of genetic targets. In order to detect and quantify multiple genetic targets in a single run, the Nio+ system also offers the highest multiplexing available on the market today. When coupled with a sample preparation platform such as the Maxwell® RSC instruments from Promega, users are provided with a seamless end-to-end workflow – from sample preparation to analysis.
